Maria Obas is a registered massage therapist, and is the owner and founder of Peak Massage Therapy. After she graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, she left Canada to research wild birds in Australia. She remained abroad for the next 3 years working in Australia and traveling New Zealand, Southeast Asia and India.
Upon her return to Canada, she pursued her interest in health care, and graduated from Algonquin College’s Intensive Massage Therapy program with honours. She received the School of Health and Community Studies award for academic achievement and leadership, and stood as class representative for the two years she studied with the college.
Maria developed the idea of Peak Massage Therapy while sitting in the Tocuma International Airport in Panama, upon her return from a solo trip to Nicaragua. As an avid rock climber, her goal was to somehow combine her love for the outdoors with health care and massage….the result: Peak Massage Therapy was born!
Inspired by adventure and the outdoors, Maria uses this to drive her motivation in using massage therapy to help others in discovering their own passions through movement and mobility.
As a science buff, Maria has a soft spot for physiology and enjoys learning about different conditions and impairments, and how massage and various modalities affect the body from a physiological perspective.
Outside of massage therapy, Maria continues to feed her adventurous side. You can generally find her researching her next solo trip abroad, trying out new tricks at the snow park, exploring local waters with her scuba diving buddy, trekking in the back country, or somewhere up the side of a cliff.
